10 Ideas For Awesome Blog Posts

By Sté Kerwer to Blogging

Can’t come up with anything new and interesting to blog about today? Check out these 10 ideas for awesome blog posts. You’re sure to find something that suits your fancy.

Things I’ve learned

This could be a list of things you’ve learned since you started blogging, or things you’ve learned since you started using WordPress, or since you got your new puppy or had your new baby or baked your first cake or… The possibilities are endless. It can be two things, ten things or 101 things. Just make sure the “things” are relevant to your readers.

Tricks to do X

We all have little chores that have multiple steps and once we understand the process we start taking shortcuts. Think of a task related to your niche that’s complicated or difficult to perform and then tell your readers the tricks you use to make the job easier.

Save time

Everbody’s busy, busy, busy these days. An extra 10 minutes here and 20 minutes there sure adds up. Give your readers a tip that saves time.

The perfect cure for

Cure” is just another word for “solution” but sometimes it attracts more attention because “cure” is associated with doctors and the medical community. Instead of offering your readers a solution, pick a problem and offer them the “perfect cure.

Niche Jargon

I sometimes forget that many of my visitors are new to the blogging game and they have no idea what “WordPress” is or what “analytics” means. Every niche has its own jargon. Use a blog post to explain one word, or a whole list. When you’re done, link to it from your sidebar because this will be a valuable resource for your readers.

The secret to

When someone says, “Psssst. Wanna hear a secret?” what do you do? You lean closer and give them your complete, undivided attention. It doesn’t have to be an earth-shattering secret, either, but it does have to be relevant to your readers.

Dear Jane or Johnny

I’ve seen a few blogs that use this type of article once a week. If you have a lot of comments on your blog you might already have some questions waiting. If not, make one up. Nobody needs to know it’s not from a real reader.

Note: This is a great way to stir up some activity in your comments, too. Publish a Dear Jane letter every week and tell your readers to ask their questions in the comments. When you answer, make sure you acknowledge the person who asked the question and thank them for their contribution. That’ll bring in even more questions because people love seeing their name in print.

Bonus: This is a great way to audition new contributors. If you’ve been thinking about taking on a part-time contributor or two to help provide more content for your blog, let them handle these Dear Johnny posts.

Beware!

What mistakes have you made that your readers might like to know about? “Beware of submitting articles to low-ranking directories” or “Beware of soy-based baby formula.” This is an ideal article to use with story-telling. Your personal experience, and your narrow miss, will help make a stronger connection with your readers.

Myth Buster

There are myths associated with every niche. Cite a myth for your readers and show them how their belief is affecting their actions. Then, show them why the myth is false, and tell them what they should do instead.

Controversy sells

A controversial article always attracts attention – if it’s written properly. State your opinion and explain why it’s controversial. Then, state the facts that back up your opinion, then state the opposition’s viewpoint and facts. Always fairly present both sides of the issue so your readers can form their own opinions and then ask them to share in the comments.
