You’ve seen the reports and guides that tell you how anyone with a sixth grade education and a laptop can make millions of dollars over night just by setting up a simple affiliate blog. Anyone Can Do It: Yes, anyone can do it. Anyone can repair a car engine or fly an airplane or make a perfect souffle, too. But not without a certain amount of knowledge. If you’ve never done anything to make money online before, why would you think you can just turn on your computer and, a few hours later, be rolling in dough?
There are all sorts of free resources all over the Internet that anyone can log onto and start blogging. To make it work though, to actually make money blogging, you have to have some specific knowledge and skill and all of that takes time to develop. If you really want to make money blogging the two things you need most are patience and tenacity.
You have to understand how the Internet works and what it takes to make your blog easy for people to find. Your blog will be just one of billions on the Internet. You have to learn how to work with the search engines so that people find your blog in the middle of all of those billions of other blogs.
You also need have some marketing skills. What are people looking for when they visit your blog? What type of information do you need to provide and how do you present it? What is it that makes people buy? Even basic skills like the psychological effects of color, fonts, and graphics are important for your success.
In some respects, blogging is just like any other job. You have to have certain skills if you want to be successful. The difference is, with blogging there are so many different methods available, if you’re not good at one, you can just try another. You can also train at your own pace without a boss breathing down your neck.
It Only Takes A Few Hours: Once you learn the technical aspects of setting up a blog you can set one up in just a few hours. But setting up your blog is just one of the many steps involved in making money blogging. It doesn’t take a whole lot of time to set up a candy store or a toy store, either, but it’s the behind-the-scenes work, the part that actually makes the money, that takes more than a few hours.
Once you’ve set up your blog you have to promote it, just like you’d have to advertise your candy store. You have to let people know it’s open for business. You also have to promote whatever product or service it is you’re selling on your blog which involves writing lots of blog posts and articles. You need to generate a mailing list so you have people to advertise to.
Like I said earlier, there are billions of blogs on the Internet. You need to let people know yours is out there in that mix and you need to give them a reason to read it.
You Can Make Money Fast: Those guides tell you that it’s possible to make hundreds or thousands of dollars in a weekend and that part is true. You really can make a lot of money fast with your blog.

The hard part is getting to the point where you have enough skills and knowledge to do it. Don’t fall into that trap of believing that it can be done overnight or you can make a million bucks while you’re lying on the beach.
