5 Questions You Got To Answer Before Blogging Full Time

By Sté Kerwer to Blogging

If you’re trying to decide if it’s time to start blogging full time then chances are you want some real answers. You already know how much writing you’re going to have to do and how much you’re going to have to learn. But there’s a big difference between blogging to earn a few extra bucks and blogging as a full time business. Here are five questions you should consider.

Are you running a blog or a business?

With a little bit of luck and elbow grease just about anyone can run a money-making affiliate blog, but one blog promoting someone else’s product is not a reliable business model. Too many things can go wrong. Your advertiser could go under, your blog could get de-indexed for some reason, and your product could crash or be replaced by something bigger and better.

If you’re planning to turn this into a sustainable business that earns enough to replace your full time job and then some you’re going to need to develop multiple streams of income including creating and promoting your own products and/or services.

Will it cause financial difficulties?

I’m not a financial expert but I’ve read articles that suggest you should look at your annual take-home pay and multiply it by at least two to determine how much you need to bring in from your own business. You’re going to need to cover not only your standard bills and living expenses but you’re also going to need to pay for your own health insurance, your own investments, and all of your own business expenses.

If you’re single it’s easy to tell yourself you can live on peanut butter and jelly if you have to, but are you really prepared for that? It’s always going to be a risk, just be sure it’s a risk you’re willing to take.

Do you have a plan for your future?

If you quit that full-time job, what are you going to do? You’re going to have an extra 8 to 10 hours a day to spend on your business. Do you have a plan for how you’re going to spend that time or are you just going to wing it? If you’ve come this far then you already know that the more you plan and the better organized you are, the better your business. Now you need to plan on how you want to expand that business.

Do you enjoy blogging?

In most cases, once you quit that full-time job there’s no turning back. You’re never going to be satisfied punching a time clock and taking orders from someone again. There won’t be a job out there that pays enough for you to give up the freedoms you have when you own your own company. So make sure that blogging and making money online are really how you want to spend your future.

Are you ready for the responsibility and stress?

No matter how much you enjoy your business there’s always going to be a certain amount of stress, especially once you quit your job and you’re relying on your blog to pay your bills. When you work for someone else you don’t have to worry about the business going under or how to keep the lights on – that all falls on someone else’s shoulders. But it’s all about you when you’re in business for yourself. Before you quit your full time job make sure you’re ready for the stress.
